Certification of experts
DVGW experts are playing a decisive role in the suitability for use, safety and hygiene of gas and water installations. In this capacity, they provide an important instrument for technical self-administration and self-control in the gas and water industries.
In combination with certified specialist companies, quality management systems and products, certified experts act as an important link between the contractor and client in construction and operating utility installations.
Requirements
Important requirements for recognition as a DVGW expert
- Relevant practical experience
- Specific educational qualifications
- Success in examination by a DVGW examining board
If successful the applicant receives a certificate showing recognition as a DVGW expert, valid for at most 4 years.
Requirements for renewing certification
- Regular practice as expert
- Regular exchange of experience
- Participation in DVGW CPE events
Gas experts
In the gas sector, certification of experts is an important contribution towards the safety of gas supply systems.
DVGW experts in the gas sector are responsible primarily for acceptance of:
- buried pipelines,
- gas control and metering systems,
- liquefied natural gas installations,
- gas expansion and compression systems,
- natural gas filling stations,
and - in-line pressure vessels.
Certified experts can also be officially accredited under Article 12 (1) of the High-Pressure Gas Pipeline Ordinance.
Water experts
Since the beginning of the year 2000 the system of experts was extended to the water sector. As a first stage, qualification requirements for experts in water treatment and water supply have been presented. This is a further contribution by the DVGW Certification Body to quality assurance in water utilities, with the ultimate aim of achieving a systems of experts in the water sector which is developing as successfully as its counterpart in the gas sector.
