The recast of the European Drinking Water Directive 2020/2184 (DWD) not only aims to protect people and their surroundings from harmful effects of contaminated drinking water but also intends to improve access to clean drinking water.
Initially adopted in October 2020, the regulation is currently in its implementation phase with the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/370 supplementing Directive (EU) 2020/2184 upheld on the 31st of December 2026 featuring a transition period which will allow manufacturers with current national certifications to adapt to new standards by 31st December 2032 the latest.
